Starts application when Windows starts

Copernic Desktop Search can start automatically when you log on to Microsoft Windows.

Prevent Copernic to be launched at Windows startup:

    • In the Tools menu, click Options...
    • Select the Advanced tab.
    • In the Others section, uncheck the option Starts application when Windows starts.
    • Click Back to main view or Escape key to confirm and close the Options window.
Note: This option is enabled by default.

Enable keyboard shortcut

The user can display the main interface of Copernic with a simple shortcut.

Enable the keyboard shortcut :

    • In the Tools menu, click Options...
    • Select the Advanced tab.
    • In the Others section, check the option Enable keyboard shortcut (press Ctrl key twice).
    • Click Back to main view or Escape key to confirm and close the Optionswindow.
Note: This option is enabled by default. You must hit the keyboard key Ctrl twice to open the main interface of Copernic.

Enable keyboard shortcut Alternative method

Some computer will interpret a mouse scroll as a "Ctrl" command, causing the main interface to appear while they use the mouse scroll. Enabling this option will allow the user to avoid mouse interference with the Ctrl + Ctrl shortcut.

Enable the keyboard shortcut:

    • In the Tools menu, click Options...
    • Select the Advanced tab.
    • In the Others section, check the option (Alternative method) Enable this option if the application window opens when the mouse scrolls..
    • Click Back to main view or Escape key to confirm and close the Optionswindow.
NOTE: THIS OPTION CaN ONLY BE ENABLE WHEN THE PARENT OPTION "eNABLE KEYBOARD SHORTCUT" IS ENABLE

Save Search Terms History

Copernic can remember the last five keywords typed in the main search box or the textboxes in the Refine section. This is called the search history. If you set the focus on a textbox, Copernic shall display the five most popular saved search with five suggestions (indexed filename for example) for a maximum of ten.

For example, if I type the character "a" in the textbox Copernic shall display the most popular saved searches beginning with the character "a" for a maximum of five saved searches and completed with indexed suggestions to give a total of ten.

Enable Save search terms history:

    • In the Tools menu, click Options...
    • Select the Advanced tab.
    • In the Others section, check the option Save search terms history.
    • Click Back to main view or Escape key to confirm and close the Optionswindow.
Note: In the Refine section, the search history is only available for the textboxes and not for the combo boxes.

Search as you Type

Real-time result filtering can help you screen down to the file you are looking for. The Search as you type feature enables Copernic Desktop Search to filter the results while you type the keywords. Next time you type a keyword, notice how the number of files is reduced with every letter you type.

Enable Search as you type:

    • In the Tools menu, click Options...
    • Select the Advanced tab.
    • In the Others section, check the option Search As You Type.
    • Click Back to main view or Escape key to confirm and close the Optionswindow.

Join the Early Access Updates Program

Enabling this option give access to more updates of Copernic Desktop Search for those who wants to try the new updates before they are officially released.

Enable Join the Early Access Updates Program:

    • In the Tools menu, click Options...
    • Select the Advanced tab.
    • In the Others section, check the option Join the Early Access Updates Program.
    • Click Back to main view or Escape key to confirm and close the Options window.
Note: These non-official updates are fully tested but not time-tested like an official update.

Select Outlook Plugin

Allow the user to select which Outlook plugin will be used to index Outlook elements such as Emails, Organizers, Contacts and offline PST files. For more details about each individual plugin, please visit the Outlook Plugins section. This option is only availible if the Microsoft Outlook Extension is enable in the Extensions Store.

Change the Selected Outlook Plugin:

    • In the Tools menu, click Options...
    • Select the Advanced tab.
    • In the Others section, select the desired element in the Select Outlook Plugin drop down menu.
    • Click Back to main view or Escape key to confirm and close the Optionswindow.
NOTE: THE APPLICATION MUST BE RESTART TO ALLOW THE NEW PLUGIN TO BE FULLY ENABLE. THE OLD OUTLOOK ITEMS INDEXED BY THE LAST PLUGIN WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE INDEX AND MUST BE REINDEX BY THE NEW PLUGIN.

Change Proxy Settings

This link is a shortcut that lead you to the Connections tab of Internet Explorer if you need to configure a proxy server for an Internet connection to have access to your history and favorites preview.

Configure your proxy settings:

    • In the Tools menu, click Options...
    • Select the Advanced tab.
    • In the Others section, check the option Change proxy settings to open the Windows internet connection settings options.
    • Click Back to main view or Escape key to confirm and close the Optionswindow.

Categories to display

Copernic Desktop Search can show or hide one or more search categories in the main window. However, you must display a search category to use it. You cannot search for a particular type of file unless its category is displayed in the main window.

Show the search categories in the main window:

    • In the Tools menu, click Options...
    • Select the Advanced tab.
    • In the Categories to display section, check the checkboxes corresponding to the categories you wish to use.
    • Click Back to main view or Escape key to confirm and close the Options window.
Note: The documents indexed for the removed category will be automatically removed when returning in the main window and the added categories will be automatically indexed when returning in the main window.
