Manage Search Results

Action on result

You can open a result or its containing folder directly, using the result buttons on the header of the preview section or through the right-click and File menu. You can also double-click on a result in the list to open it in its associated application. Here are the shortcuts available in the result's right-click menu:

Files:
    • Open: Open the selected file in its native application.
    • Open folder: Open the folder in which the file is stored.
    • Print: Print the file using your computer default printer.
Emails:
    • Open: Open the selected email in its native application.
    • Copy: Copy the selected email in the Windows clipboard
    • Print: Print the email using your computer default printer.
    • Related messages: Finds all emails containing the same subject.
    • Reply: Open a new reply message window in the native application.
    • Reply to all: Open a new reply to all message windows in the native application.
    • Forward: Open a new message windows to forward the message to a new contact.
    • Move: Open a window that allow you to move the selected email into another folder. (Microsoft Outlook Only)
    • Delete: Allow you to delete an email directly from Copernic Desktop Search. (Microsoft Outlook Only)
Contacts:
    • Open: Open the contact's information file.
    • Copy: Copy the contact information file in the Windows clipboard.
    • Print: Print the selected email in your computer default printer.
    • Send message: Send the contact a new email message with the native application.
    • Messages from contact: Find email messages from the contact.
    • Organizer items from contact: Find organizer items from the contact, such as meeting request.
Organizers:
    • Open: Open the selected organizer.
    • Copy: Copy the organizer file in the Windows clipboard.
    • Print: Print the selected organizer using your computer default printer.
    • Related Organizer items: Finds all organizers containing the same subject.
History:
    • Open: Open the result's corresponding Web page with your default web browser.
    • Copy: Copy a link to the result's corresponding web page in the Windows clipboard.
Bookmarks:
    • Open: Open the result's corresponding Web page with your default web browser. 
    • Copy: Copy a link to the result's corresponding web page in the Windows clipboard.
Pictures:
    • Open: Open the selected picture in its native application.
    • Open folder: Open the folder in which the file is stored.
    • Print: Print the picture using your computer default printer.
Musics:
    • Open: Play the selected music file in its native application.
    • Open folder: Open the folder in which the music file is stored.
Videos:
    • Open: Play the selected video in its native application.
    • Open folder: Open the folder in which the video is stored.

Display all matching results for a given category

By default, Copernic Desktop Search displays all items included in that selected category when no keywords is entered. Click on Search or hit the Enter key without any keywords will give the same results.

You can also launch the "@all" query to get all results.

Expand or collapse groups of search results

For all groups:
    • Right-click any group header.
    • Choose Expand all Groups or Collapse all Groups in the menu.
For one group:
    • Double-click the group's header.
      -OR-
    • Click the group's plus/minus sign.

You can also set your preference for expanding or collapsing groups of search results.

Print an item

When you find your document, you can print it directly using your default printer.

    • Select the item you want to print.
    • Right-click on the item, click Print.

Note: This option is not available in the Audio & Video Categories.

Open a file

When you find what you have been looking for, you can open the file in its associated application directly.

    • Select the file you want to open.
    • Right-click on the file, click Open.

Note: You can open the file by double-clicking on the result in the search results.

Open a folder

When you find what have have been looking for, you can open the folder where it is located.

    • Select the item inside the folder you want to open the folder.
    • Right-click on the item, click Open Folder.

Reply, reply to all or forward a message

When you find the email you have been looking for, you can open reply, reply to all or forward it.

    • Select the email you wish to reply to or forward.
    • Right-click on the item, click Reply, Reply to All or Forward.
    • A window will open from the native application for you to reply, reply to all or forward.

Related messages

When you find the email you have been looking for, you can find the related messagers.

    • Select the email you wish to find related messages.
    • Right-click on the item, click Related Messages.

Move an email (Microsoft Outlook only)

When you find the email you have been looking for, you can move it to another folder.

    • Select the email you wish to move.
    • Right-click on the item and click Move.
    • Select the desired destination folder.
    • Click OK.

Delete an email (Microsoft Outlook only)

When you find an email you no longer want, you can delete it from directly form Outlook with Copernic Desktop Search.

    • Select the email you wish to delete.
    • Right-click on the item and click Delete.
    • The email will be deleted from Outlook.

Play a music or video file

When you find the music or video file you have been looking for, vous can play in a multimedia player associated with the file.

    • Select the music or video file you wish to play.
    • Right-click on the item, click Play.
    • The file will start playing in the multimedia player associated with the file.

Note: The music or video file can be played inside the preview pane using the integrated multimedia player.

Sort and group results

Sorting results means changing the order in which they are displayed according to a specific criterion, whereas grouping them implies breaking the order by creating small groups instead of a continuous list without affecting the sorting order in any way.

To modify the sorting order:
    • Choose an available criterion in the displayed list.
To group results:
    • Open the View menu.
    • Go to the Groups sub menu.
    • Click on Show in Group.
Note: The grouping option is only available with the Detailed and Thumbnail views.

Note: The sorting criterias can vary depending on the category.
